Whilst a lot of people will describe what makes up close friends in different ways. The selection of the groomsmen and maid of honour was a simply enough task for us. For me (Jordan) all I had to think about was all the crazy adventures and times I've had since leaving Katherine and then who were constants in those events. Patrick, Stephen and Trent whether in combination or as individuals represent the constants in those times. Put simply these three are the ones that i have happily joined chasing the white rabbit down he rabbit hole. More than this, these three have always been there, whether for a beer and a laugh or support in tough times, they are the friend that represent stability in my life. For Ash, Steph has been the same type of friend as Jordan’s. She has helped Ash experience new things and ensured that dull moments where fleeting at best. More than that, she has been there for Ash whether it was to party or to cry. So as you read these bio’s, remember these are the people that have bailed us out of gaol, no, these are the people that have sat beside us in our prison cells and said ‘well that should make a good story’.
Born on the eclipse of a blood red moon, during a total planetary alignment, Patrick Tune is no stranger to lighter side of chaos. As the grooms younger brother, he has been getting Jordan into and out of trouble since that fateful night of his spawning. Living with Jordan both in Katherine and Melbourne, he has been instrumental in keeping Jordan happily distracted from the duller moments of life through his eclectic ideas of social interaction or simply replying to any suggested activity, no matter how crazy, with ‘Sure lets do that, just let me fill the esky’. During a recent interview with the international magazine Red Head’s Weekly, Patrick was asked ‘What was his biggest fear?’, Patrick’s answer was simply… ‘Custard!’. An experienced Diesel Mechanic this man who fears only the delicious goodness of liquid dessert, is up for anything. He is just as comfortable in the boxing ring, diving the murky depths of the ocean, or in the local watering hole dazzling people with his Charles Dickens like ability to spin a tale taller the Everest! Over the course of our time together, he has proven not only his superior trouble making skills, but adept social qualities and undying loyalty. With such credentials, it’s no wonder he is the best man.
Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you the The Myth, The Legend, The BAX. This strapping young sailor first crossed paths with the man of the hour at basic navy training in Melbourne way back in 2002. Since than he has been getting into trouble with Jordan all over Australia, continuing to serve together in Perth, on the Ship Warramunga and in Canberra at Australia’s Federation Guard. He has lead Jordan astray in bars all over Asia and cheered him on whilst Jordan danced up a frenzy in local drinking establishments.
So who is this man of mystery, this lafario of mayhem you might wonder. Well what has discovered about this enigma of a man is that Stephen Baker is no slouch of society. An accomplished sailor who after over 10 years in the Navy, left to continue to protect our borders with Border Force (Ex-Australian Customs) and now spends his time stopping bad guys all over Australia Water’s. An avid thrill seeker, you are just as likely to find him performing death-defying stunts on snowboards, trekking through the wild wildnesses of Australia or flipping gravity the bird as he jumps out of perfectly serviceable aircraft. He is a man that as taking life by the short and curlies and squeezed until it has squealed with submission. So come one come all, ladies and gentlemen… Stephen Baker! You have been warned!
If you find yourself laying in a hole with your leg broken… who you gunna call? Not Ghostbuster’s… Trent Crosdale. Trent first meet Jordan whilst serving together on the warship Warramunga back in 2004. Since that time, Trent has continued to be a voice of life saving reason for the team in there chaotic adventures. Don’t be fooled by his rationale though, this man has stood shoulder to shoulder with Jordan in bars all over Australia and Asia, braved the precarious dangers of many of our ode worthy adventures and even once dressed a man in a skirt and glad wrapped him to a light pole. Few of the grooms craziest stories don’t involve Trent. Despite his wild side, Trent has a fondness for trekking the distant tracks of hiking trails, diving the fathomless depths of the salty seas and simply relaxing with a fine bottle of port.
When Trent isn’t recking havoc through bars, bailing Jordan out of his latest mess or engaging in ode worthy adventure he works a Paramedic around the Newcastle Region. This talented member of the medical community excels at saving lives and if you need to call ghostbusters than you should have called Trent sooner.
Few words can be said about Stephanie that can’t be highlighted in the fact that her name is made up of 3 first names meaning she is thrice the women of most and the reason why Ash only needed one bridesmaid. Winner of the Cow Tipper of the Year Award for 2001, 2004 and 2005 she once sat in a boat just to watch it float! She is well versed in the art of travel country hoping the world over in pursuit of her equestrian nirvana. A party animal by trade, rumour has it that she once beat Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Jnr in a ‘first to drop’ party-a-thon. This wilder than wild mistress of adventure has been by Ash’s side since High School, helping her get into trouble more often than getting her out of it and ensuring Ash experienced the world outside of the pages of a book. A loyal and dedicated friend Steff has supported Ash through some of the toughest times in her life, and never fails to out a smile on her face. A true allrounder and the prefect choice for Ash’s maid of honour.
This is a story to be told from both sides of the coin. From my end (Jordan), I planned a private proposal at home away from prying eyes and giving me the ability to create the environment of secluded romance that I wanted. This creation was complete with a pathway of candles leading to the emptied living room where Ash would be dazzled with a picnic mat laid out with all the trimmings of a roast & veggies on a display platter, fruit, wine, bread & cheese and, of course, champagne. Lets not forget the dashing and somewhat nervous groom to be, standing there dressed too the nines holding a rather large stone. Now, to make this a perfect as possible, I had timed all the cooking to be ready mere minutes before usually and consistently Ash got home so everything what hot and sumptuous.
Well, this is the one occasion when Ash decided it was time for an early mark wasn’t it, so a hour before Ash was meant to get home she messaged me informing me off this auspicious news and my brain went into overdrive. The military has an expression, BS baffles brains, and after 13 years in the service I can baffle the best of them. I sent Ash on missions to get dinner from Woolworths 20 minutes aways, pick up ‘the really nice bottle of wine’ from the only store that sold it a further 20 minutes aways (Thank you google) and finally that I had lost my keys and needed Ash to wait down stairs for me so I could meet her there and she could let me in. Once everything was ready I messaged Ash letting her know that I had ‘magically’ found my keys, must have missed her and she should come up. Upon her arrival everything went pretty much textbook. I nailed the speech I had prepared to the now teary face of my partner, dropped my knee whilst simultaneously opening the ring box – of which I had also practiced and asking Ash to be my wife. Don’t panic everyone she said yes!
Ash’s story, is much more short but no less emotional. He surprised me in the best way possible, at home, with food and wine. I had no idea what was happening and as I had an early mark from work, did not mind running around the country side for dinner. Jordan was lucky that I had mum on hold in the car (phone service lost when you drive into our building) when he rang to ask me to wait for him, as normally I would have been very sus about this, since I could just buzz him up. As I walked in I was shocked and started to tear up, though I did get a bit worried when he started his speech with "You are the most impatient, stubborn and incorrigible person I know..." thank god it got better after that!
We met just on the cusp of Jordan leaving Canberra and moving to Sydney. Thinking ‘why not’, we went on a date to a nice Mexican cantina in Canberra CBD. From the first date, we hit it off and after 8 months of distance dating Ash applied and was successful for a great job in Sydney and we decided to move in together. While you could say the rest is history it is more like the rest is an adventure. Since than we have travelled all over Australia, snowboarded in New Zealand, partied all of the USA and relaxed like pro’s in Bali – just to name a few. We are kindred spirits in our love of travel and now we are planning further adventures to Europe, America and Asia (maybe a sneaky trip to the Middle East as well). We love our life and as the next phase comes about we can’t wait to share it with everyone.
I grew up in my home town of Katherine in the Northern Territory; after which, I joined the Navy at 20 years old and have been there for the last 13 years. One of the greatest perks of my job is that it has supported my love of travel, taking me all over the world from the bitter cold seas of the Southern Ocean to the crisp heat of the Arabian Sea. In my own time I have travelled through Europe, Asia, the Pacific Islands and America, and still get excited at planning more trips.
I have a bit of an adventurous streak to mix up my travel bug and you will usually find me signing up for diving, bungee jumping, white water rafting and pretty much any other ridiculously sanity restrictive activities I can get my hands on where ever I am. Put simply, I try to find the fun in life and chase that dream down which ever rabbit hole that leads me.
For those of you who don't know me, here are a few things. I love to read, anywhere anytime as my friends and family can attest. For my first 16 years I grew up in a pub in Cowra, which I'm sure my best friend has a few stories to tell in her speach to tell. I have a great family, large as it is consisting of 11 immediate family members (soon to be 12 - Woohoo)!
Looking forward to seeing my current friends and family and meeting new ones. Here's to a big 2017!
Less then 12 months till the wedding and Save the Dates have gone out (invites will follow in another 9 months). Thanks to those of you who have already RSVP'd! So excited to have you there.
